About

The Long Way Back to Myself

Hello! I'm Katie. I have a Master's degree in Integrative Psychology from the Integrative Psychology Institute, and I'm a certified Psychosomatic Practitioner. Through depth-oriented somatic therapy, I help women listen beyond who they've been told to be so they can live in ways that feel fully their own. Based in Oakland, I work with women online across California and the US.

I grew up in a home filled with love and support, but with an unspoken responsibility to organize myself around my mother's emotional needs. The parts of me that didn't fit—my desires, my voice, my way of seeing the world—were often discouraged or silenced. Gradually, I came to believe there was a "right" way to be, while what I naturally felt or longed for was something to question rather than trust. To preserve connection, I learned to adapt myself instead of developing an inner reference point for what was true to me.

I carried those adaptations into early adulthood, building a life that was objectively good by external measures—married, a master's degree, a life that took me from Latin America to Africa to Europe. From the outside, I appeared confident and certain. Beneath the surface, I had learned to place my trust outside myself, relying on someone else's certainty and capability while losing touch with my own. I'd come to believe I could only be okay inside the life that was supposed to be "right." My body began speaking first: constricted breath, a dull ache along my spine, irritation, a dimming sense of aliveness, a pull toward solitude.

In my mid-thirties, a slow unraveling began—questioning truths I'd never let myself question, reclaiming parts of myself I'd been told were wrong, and eventually leaving my marriage. What followed was a profound grief: grieving the self I had abandoned to stay connected, and the life I had built before I knew how I truly wanted to live.

Grief became the catalyst.

Certain relationships began reflecting me back to myself in a new way—giving permission to explore my longings, trust my experience, and follow what brought me alive without costing me connection. My work with a depth-oriented somatic therapist deepened this, teaching me a new way of being with myself where becoming more fully me didn't require self-erasure. I learned to listen across the many ways my life was speaking—through my body, emotions, desires, relationships, recurring images, and a knowing that logic alone couldn't reach. I began following the breadcrumbs: instinctive nudges, psychosomatic patterns, the pull toward wilderness and solitude, returning to salsa dancing and other places I felt most alive, synchronistic moments, and the imaginal space awakening within me.

Over the last decade, I’ve completed a master’s degree integrating depth-oriented, narrative, somatic, relational, and parts-based therapy, while working deeply with hundreds of women. Women who are expansive thinkers and deep feelers—witty, playful, deeply alive women with rich inner worlds. Women who long for more authentic ways of inhabiting their bodies and spirits, compassionate and soulful relational collaboration, and the freedom to reclaim their agency and become more fully themselves. The way of listening that transformed my own life now forms the foundation of how I walk alongside them.

I create space to slow down, listen deeply, and discover that your desires and unease are not problems to solve, but sources of wisdom. I don't only understand this emotional arc intellectually. I’ve lived it, and I’m still living it. I’m here to help you trust yourself in the messy middle—where you don’t have to know the answer immediately, can stay present with uncertainty, listen across the different dimensions of yourself, and allow what is true to emerge through lived experience rather than inherited narratives.
